Big Bite Baits of Eufaula, Alabama is pleased to announce they have teamed up with Jill Wijangco, Conservation Director for the Illinois Bass Nation, to create a used soft baits recycling program for 2022. Ralph Sweat, the late president of the IBN, spent countless hours collecting used plastics to recycle them into autographed plaques and new baits that he gave away at events. Ralph’s motto was, “These baits are never going to end up in a landfill. I’m going to take them and make something out of them.” To expand Ralph’s vision, under this new partnership, the Illinois Bass Nation will be collecting used soft plastics during their events in 2022 and Big Bite will help facilitate the recycling. These recycled soft plastic baits are not used for new lure production but are sent to an outside vendor who then recycles the plastics into shoe soles. In exchange for the soft plastics mailed in, Big Bite Baits will provide the Illinois Bass Nation with baits to distribute to the folks who donate and help get this program started and keep it going
“Jill has worked very hard to start this program in Illinois with the Bass Nation. We are pleased to help her grow it in 2022 and facilitate the recycling of more baits to a good second use after catching lots of fish in Illinois.”, Brandon Ray, Big Bite Baits.
“With the Cast, Catch, Convert campaign, I aim to change the mindset of anglers both young and old to not only keep plastics out of the water, but also our landfills, so they can be converted and given a second life,” Jill Wijangco, Conservation Director Illinois Bass Nation.
