Strong winds churned the area waters and have made for some changes in the local fishing hot spots. Anglers hope that calmer weather allows for easier days in the near future.
Kirk at East End Angler said that perch have been caught in Lake Erie between the 58- and 62-foot range straight out of Shades Beach.
He added that a “Northeast blow” pushed cold water into shore and the walleye have come along with it between 45 and 50 feet of water. Some steelhead have been picked up inside and outside of the mountain off of Shades and to the northeast.
Anglers at the FishUSA Pro Shop have reported walleye active in 70-75 feet. They have used crawler harnesses and Michigan spoons. Bill at FishUSA said that the walleye have moved to shallower waters in 50-60 feet later in the evening. Anglers are also reporting success with dipsy divers and Bay Rat LXD lures.
The report out of Poor Richard’s Bait and Tackle has walleye in the 50- to 55-foot range in shallower water and deeper in 65- to 70-foot depth. Purple and green colors have worked for anglers in that vicinity.
Bill at Tudor Hook-N-Nook said that walleye fishing has been hit-or-miss out his way due to current migration patterns. Walleye have been caught in the 70-plus foot range east and northeast of Walnut Creek.
The Perch Pirate reported a steelhead caught in shallower water on Thursday. Captain Bob said that the anglers on the Pirate have caught a few walleye, but the latest conditions on the lake have made for tougher times.
According to Dan at Elk Creek Sports, the hottest fishing was in 55 to 70 feet of water. He is looking forward to calmer weather in the coming days. Walleye and perch have been caught together at about 45 feet.
David from Richter’s Bait and Tackle said anglers at the bait shop have reported walleye in 12 to 18 feet of water in the Shenango River. They have used jigs and spoons. David also said that a few nice crappies have come in at a 15-foot depth.
