FISHING REPORT: Maine 1/10/22

Greg Cutting at Jordan’s Store in Sebago tells us that there is a bit more ice than there was last week, but it was slow going. “Tricky Pond is almost frozen. It’s January 10 and the middle of Tricky Pond is still open. That’s not supposed to be happening,” he said. Greg said that there are still a lot of anglers fishing the edges of Tricky and catching some nice splake. He says there are some people fishing Hancock and a local kid caught some crappie in Barker and others caught a few crappie in Brown’s Pond. And there should still be a lot of brook trout left behind. “That would be a great place to take kids,” he said.

Vern at Cobbossee Bait was fresh in the truck from checking bait trapping sites. “We have exceptional ice conditions. People have equipment on every lake and there’s pretty much 8-inches of beautiful ice everywhere,” he said. With only about 2-inches of snow on the ice snowmobile travel is great right now. Vern says there are some nice salmon being caught in the narrows and the bass fishing has been exceptional as well. He says there have been nice 3-pound class rainbows caught in Long Pond and a lot of average pike being caught. A local biologist told Vern that there are some large smelt being jigged out of Parker Pond.
